South Aegean Regional Information

This covers the area starting roughly at Marmaris and heading West and North to Izmir. The main airports are Bodrum, Marmaris, Datca, Cesme and Izmir. Although as hot as anywhere in Turkey during the summer, the Aegean Coast cools down much more quickly in Winter and has a shorter season than the Mediterranean resorts. Having said that, it offers its own unique beauty and a depth of culture that is hard to rival. Stunning scenery, chic and cosmopolitan resorts and an incredible coastline are its main boasts.

Altinkum

Altinkum is a favourite resort with an exceptionally good beach and exceptionally cheap property.

Bodrum

Bodrum is the favourite holiday destination for Turkish pop stars and footballers! It offers everything from ultra-trendy Bodrum town to the quiet fishing villages such as Gumusluk. All of these are served by Bodrum airport making transfers quick and easy. Good beaches, good scenery, good night-life.

Datca

The Datca peninsula is situated between Bodrum to the North and Marmaris to the East and is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is the area where the Mediterranean meets the Aegean Sea and as such has a unique feel to it. Life here is very laid-back and easy going so don’t expect to find a cosmopolitan night-life and lots of night clubs. If you like quiet beaches, pristine countryside, historical sights and relaxed evenings making friends in local bars and restaurants, Datca is for you. It is a favourite stopping-off point for yachts and boasts an attractive new marina. You can catch a daily ferry to Bodrum from here which takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes. The nearest airport is Dalaman.

Kusadasi

Kusadasi is a buzzing resort popular with English package holidaymakers and famous for its half a mile long “bar street” full of English pubs! The surrounding countryside is pretty, particularly the Dilek National Park with its fantastic beaches. Kusadasi itself has no beaches but does have a good sized shopping centre with some excellent shoping and a good selection of bars and restaurants.
